Heart's aflutter about Twitter

A little bird told me that you want to know more about Twitter… “tweet tweet!” Everywhere you go these days, if you are connected to social networking at all, you’ll hear about Twitter. I even heard it on the radio that rugby players like Victor Matfield and Fourie du Preez are keeping their fans up to date by tweeting updates on Twitter.

For those who are just getting started with all this cyberlove, it can just get overwhelming. “My gosh, you have just figured out Facebook, and suddenly there is something newer, faster, and more confusing. The way I like to describe Twitter is that it feels like the status messages of Facebook on steroids. Faster and more efficient in real-time information than blogging or even Facebook, Twitter is revolutionizing the way people communicate. Don’t be afraid to get in on the conversation.

Setting up a Twitter account is easy, and you can start to figure out what is going on out there in cyberland almost immediately. Every industry has their heros, and the industry of photography is no different. Find people you find interesting by searching your industry or hobby – soon you will find people that contribute interesting information and links on a daily basis. I have certain favourites that I just know will deliver me with something new in the industry almost every day. And then there are also non-photographic Twitterers I follow that keep me up to date in terms of news, entertainment and interesting events.

There are plenty websites dedicated solely to provide tips and twitter-etiquette. Check out http://www.twitip.com/ , http://twittertips.org/, http://www.twittertipscenter.com/. What I love about Twitter is that I can ‘stalk’ people without them having to give me permission to do so. I can follow whoever I like and check in everyday to see what is new or interesting from the list of Twitterers I chose to follow. Of course you have to be selective to only follow people that can really contribute to your business or personal life or else you will just get bogged down by the hundreds of tweets about what people, or worst, their pets had for breakfast!

Twitter can be a fantastic source of information in all areas of life, a fun communication tool, and a great way to stay connected to clients and colleagues. And of course, be sure to follow me on Twitter!

I’d love to know who YOU follow on twitter! Leave a comment with some suggestions below…
